Walker Lakes Duplex Homes Now Available
October 02, 2011 - Edmonton Sun Article by Jason Hills
Greenboro Homes is giving first time homebuyers the opportunity they've been waiting for in Edmonton's south side community of Walker Lakes. Greenboro Homes currently has 22 duplex-style homes available starting in the low $300s. They come with landscaped yards, a rear deck and all six appliances as well as a 20 x 20 free standing garage. "We've given our customers full control and it starts with no condo fees," said Caroline Bliss, area manager for Greenboro Homes and Walker Lakes. "Many first time homebuyers don't have a lot of spare cash to do landscaping and add elements like a deck to their home, but these things will all be included. "Greenboro Homes is giving customers three different options when it comes to floor plans. There are three bedrooms with 1 ½ baths, three bedrooms with 2 ½ baths and two bedroom with 2 ½ baths. "They're a very affordable option for first and second time homeowners," said Bliss. Read more ... "These duplex homes have a lot of character in terms of architectural appeal."Condo fees can cover various things for landscaping and snow removal as well as housing repairs. They're an added cost that can help homeowners in many ways, but they can make some mortgages almost unreachable when it comes to affordability. "Condo fees serve a purpose," said Bliss. "But the duplexes we build, you own your own half. It's not part of the homeowners association. You're responsible for doing your own yard work, snow removal and any kind of house repairs. "You have full control, and you don't get penalized if something goes wrong with your neighbours home down the street. "The 20 x 20 detached garage is a unique option when it comes to owning a duplex. The duplex showhomes will be available to view later this month. "Some of our duplexes will be ready to move in by the end of November, and the rest will be ready by the end of March," said Bliss. "We anticipate these to be a big success and we're excited to venture into our next phase of duplexes in Walker Lakes."
